According to Dr. Karina Bodo, "Dr. Belyea received the Barlow Memorial Award from the Canadian Institute
of Mining and Metallurgy for an economic geology paper. She was the first woman honoured this way."

"fellow" of the Royal Society of Canada
To be elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada is
an extreme honor and was a rare acomplishment for a woman during the 19th century. Helen Belyea was elected a Fellow
of the Royal Society of Canada in 1962 (Bodo).
